Job Title: Accounting Analyst

Company Description:

American Association of Colleges of Osteopathic Medicine (AACOM) is seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Accounting Analyst to support our financial operations. The successful candidate will be responsible for maintaining accurate financial records, assisting in the preparation of detailed financial reports, analyzing data, and managing budgets. This role is crucial in ensuring compliance with accounting standards and regulations while contributing to the financial health of our organization.

Responsibilities:
  • Maintain and update financial records, including general ledger entries, accounts payable and receivable, and payroll.
  • Conduct regular reconciliations of accounts to ensure accuracy and completeness.
  • Manage and monitor the organization's budget, providing regular reports on budget performance and variances.
  • Analyze financial data and prepare detailed reports on financial performance, trends, and variances.
  • Assist in preparing monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports and presentations for internal departments and the Board of Deans and its committees.
  • Monitor and manage grant funds, ensuring compliance with grant requirements and reporting standards.
  • Assist in the development and implementation of financial policies and procedures to enhance internal controls.
  • Collaborate with program managers and other departments to provide financial insights and support decision-making.
  • Assist with the preparation and coordination of the annual audit and tax filings, ensuring compliance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), IRS regulations, state requirements, and other regulatory standards for non-profit organizations.
Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree in accounting or finance.
  • Minimum of 2 years of accounting experience, preferably in a non-profit organization.
  • Strong understanding of accounting principles and practices, including GAAP.
  • Proficiency in accounting software and Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel.
  • Excellent analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Familiarity with grant management and reporting.
  • CPA certification or progress towards certification is desirable.
  • Commitment to the mission and values of AACOM.
