About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Structural Engineer to join our team at Blue Origin. As a key member of our Space Systems group, you will be responsible for designing and developing structural components for our spacecraft and launch vehicles.

Responsibilities
  • Support the development of detailed design specifications and engineering release documents
  • Maintain and revise released drawings and analysis based on engineering change requests
  • Create or support non-conformance dispositions during fabrication and assembly of hardware
  • Generate or modify 3-D models, component drawings, assembly drawings, and interface control documents
  • Perform or facilitate emergent analysis for non-conformances
  • Generate or update documentation for assembly and testing of development and flight hardware
  • Participate in subsystem level testing including planning, execution, data reduction and analysis
  • Support component specifications and participate in Supplier meetings
  • Collaborate with manufacturing and production teams in Florida Manufacturing Complex
  • Participate in the development and purchase of new equipment and tooling
  • Work with multi-functional teams across multiple work sites that include design, analysis, materials, processes, structures, fluids, systems, procurement and manufacturing
Requirements
  • B.S. degree or higher in mechanical, structural, or other relevant engineering field
  • 3-5+ years in professional engineering experience
  • Strong fundamentals in mechanics of materials, stress/strain, statics and finite element analysis
  • Experience with large primary or secondary structures
  • Experience with material selection, compatibility and metallic manufacturing techniques & product forms (e.g. sheet metal, machining, etc)
  • Familiarity with tolerance, GD&T and design for manufacturability
  • Strong mechanical design and integration skills using 3D CAD software
  • Strong product data management (PDM) skills (e.g. Windchill, TeamCenter, etc)
  • Hands on experience with hardware "on the production floor" and/or "in service"
  • Ability to travel 0%-20% of the year to Suppliers and Manufacturing Facility in FL to support manufacturing as needed
  • Ability to earn trust, maintain positive and professional relationships, and strengthen our culture of inclusion
Preferred Qualifications
  • M.S. degree or higher in mechanical, structural, or other relevant engineering field
  • ProE/CREO and Windchill experience
  • Familiarity with buckling, fatigue and/or fracture failure modes
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Project or another equivalent schedule software
  • Familiarity with budget management
  • Experience in risk management and consolidation of technical data for presentation to senior leadership
