Role Expectations
The Nurse Coordinator for Patient Messaging operates under the guidance of the Supervisor and Manager of the Message Center. This role involves integrating nursing processes (assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation) to ensure continuity of care for patients within the Nurse Message Center. The position requires the application of fundamental nursing principles, practices, and ethics within the RN Scope of Practice. The Nurse Coordinator collaborates with clinical staff to enhance message center efficiency and productivity while prioritizing patient care.
Work Schedule: | Location: Administrative Offices
Core Responsibilities:
- Utilize RN scope of practice effectively in message center operations, including managing call queues, triage, in-basket management, and patient education.
- Process medication refill requests in accordance with provider standing orders.
- Collaborate daily with message center staff to ensure tasks are executed efficiently and adhere to departmental standards.
- Plan, implement, and assess care and education for patients, families, and healthcare professionals regarding specific health conditions.
- Serve as a resource for clinic and message center staff, offering expertise on medical and nursing matters.
- Document patient interactions in the EMR following established policies while maintaining confidentiality.
- Contribute to the development and evaluation of care standards.
- Stay informed about current insurance regulations affecting patients and families.
- Instruct and schedule patients for tests/procedures ordered by physicians; assist with authorizations and communicate test results post-physician review.
- Deliver high-quality care by adhering to departmental procedures and standards, recommending improvements in practices to enhance quality and efficiency.
- Assist in the creation and updating of departmental guidelines and procedures.
- Engage in cross-training initiatives for team members.
- Support a teaching environment that fosters the growth of interns, students, and residents.
- Travel to various clinics as needed; possession of a reliable vehicle and valid driver's license is required.
- Perform additional duties as specified in the official job description.
Qualifications:
- Education: Associate of Science Degree in Nursing required; Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred.
- Licensure/Certification: Active California Registered Nurse license; current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required; valid CA Driver's License and auto insurance. EPIC certification is required for the specific module.
- Experience: Minimum of 2 years as a Registered Nurse; outpatient experience preferred.
- Technical Skills: Proficient in computer usage; ability to read, write legibly, and communicate effectively in English.
- Interpersonal Skills: Strong communication abilities to engage with patients, families, and healthcare teams, demonstrating empathy and cultural sensitivity.
- Cognitive Skills: Critical thinking skills to analyze medical situations and make informed decisions in a dynamic healthcare setting.
- Work Eligibility: Must be authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis without requiring sponsorship.
