Job Title: Early Intervention Assistant

Job Summary: We are seeking a highly motivated and dedicated Early Intervention Assistant to join our team at Richmond Public Schools. The successful candidate will provide support to students in grades K-2, assisting in the early intervention eligibility screening process and conducting academic interventions using research-based methodology.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide small group instruction to students in grades K-2.
  • Communicate with school personnel and parents regarding student progress.
  • Differentiate instruction based on assessment data.
  • Participate in team reviews concerning academic progress for students receiving services.
  • Share student data with applicable teachers and administration.
  • Provide pre and post-assessment data to teachers and administrators.
  • Communicate and interact with students, parents, staff, and community.
  • Maintain accurate records and documentation.
  • Follow required procedures and practices outlined in training.
  • Attend all required training.
  • Monitor appropriate use and care of equipment, materials, and facilities.
  • Administer informal and formal assessments outlined in program.
  • Evaluate and assess student progress against instructional program objectives.
  • Manage classroom organization.

Requirements:

  • Associate's degree or completion of 60 hours of college credit from an accredited college or university recognized by the Virginia Department of Education.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of and ability to assist in reading, writing, and mathematics instruction.
  • Excellent communication, organizational, time management, and public relations skills.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.
  • Good skills in operating personal computers and related software.
  • Adaptability to changing priorities, ability to work independently, and effectively handle multiple assignments simultaneously.
  • Good knowledge of and understanding of child growth and development and paraprofessional instructional procedures and practices.
  • Considerable patience and ability to work effectively with children and faculty members.

Working Conditions:

Duties performed typically in a school setting. Performs professional work providing teaching and/or training services to students. Work requires frequent standing, sitting, light lifting up to 10 pounds, walking, vocal communication for expressing or exchanging ideas, hearing to perceive information at a normal spoken word level, and visual acuity for preparing and analyzing written or computer data.
