Job Description

POSITION SUMMARY

The employee is responsible for performing basic and intermediate tasks while operating light to medium machinery in the construction, repair, and upkeep of county roadways and bridge infrastructures. The employee may work as part of a designated crew or independently as necessary.

QUALIFICATIONS

High School Diploma or equivalent, valid Ohio driver's license, proficiency in computer usage, and familiarity with office practices and procedures. A minimum of 1 year of experience in construction or a related field is required, or an equivalent combination of training and experience. A valid Class A State of Ohio Commercial Driver's License must be obtained and maintained. The candidate must successfully pass a medical examination to meet the physical qualifications outlined in 49 CFR 391.41, Subpart E, for holding a valid State of Ohio Commercial Driver's License, including pre-employment and random drug and alcohol testing.

DUTIES

The responsibilities include, but are not limited to: transporting materials and equipment using light and medium-duty vehicles, conducting snow and ice removal operations on public roads, forming, placing, and finishing concrete, fabricating reinforcing steel structures, patching cracks and holes in roadways, performing landscaping tasks, installing various types of drainage pipes, guardrail installation, servicing and maintaining equipment, managing traffic control operations, completing daily reports and logs, and effectively interacting with the public in high-pressure situations. The employee may be subject to emergency call-outs and must respond promptly.

Regular and predictable attendance is essential.

These responsibilities are illustrative and the employee may perform some or all of these duties or other job-related tasks as assigned.

HOURS: Monday – Friday

COMPENSATION: $20.28 per hour

FLSA: Non-Exempt from Overtime

UNUSUAL WORKING CONDITIONS: Exposure to extreme temperatures and weather conditions, noise, dirt, grease, vibrations, electrical and mechanical hazards, dust, and chemicals. The employee may experience eyestrain when performing snow removal. Must possess and maintain the physical capability to execute work assignments that may require prolonged and frequent walking, climbing, balancing, pushing and pulling, lifting, carrying, shoveling, hammering, tamping, bending, stooping, crouching, and sitting activities using all major muscle groups. Minimum lifting capability is 30 lbs. on a frequent basis, and 77 lbs. on an occasional basis. Adequate neck mobility is necessary when operating a dump truck or snowplow. Manual dexterity, normal vision (including color and depth perception), and hearing acuity are required to operate tools and equipment due to working in close proximity to heavy machinery and moving traffic. The employee must be able to work steadily, accurately, and at various heights to complete work assignments.
