Key Responsibilities

The primary responsibilities of the Certified Sterile Processing Specialist include:

  • Coordinating surgical instruments and supplies for procedures, acting as the primary contact for Operating Room personnel.
  • Developing expertise in core specialties while gaining experience in other areas.
  • Serving as a resource within the department, managing the trial, purchase, and assembly of new or revised instrument sets.
  • Performing various duties in the Central Processing Department, including washing, reassembling, and wrapping instruments and supplies for sterilization.
  • Operating sterilization equipment and maintaining accurate inventories.
  • Ensuring timely processing of patient charges and credits.
  • Maintaining a clean and organized work environment.
  • Responding effectively to routine and emergency requests from users.
Essential Qualifications

To be successful in this role, candidates must meet the following qualifications:

  • Certification as a Registered Central Service Technician (CRCST) or Certified Sterile Processing and Distribution Technician (CSPDT).
  • A high school diploma or equivalent; completion of a sterile processing program is preferred.
  • Two years of relevant experience is preferred, with a strong understanding of surgical instrumentation.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Physical capability to lift at least 50 pounds and perform duties that require mobility throughout the facility.
