The Systems Engineering Division (SED) offers unmatched expertise in systems engineering to the U.S. government and various public and private entities, universities, nonprofit organizations, consortia, and commercial firms engaged in the advanced application of space technology. Our services range from systems architecture development to system analysis and optimization, astrodynamics, orbital debris management, navigation, failure analysis, mission assurance, cost and schedule assessment, and economic market analysis. The Astrodynamics Department's core competencies include conceptual mission design, orbit selection, mission operations support, and multi-body dynamics.

The Astrodynamics Department operates within the Systems Analysis and Simulation Subdivision, Systems Engineering Division, Engineering Technology Group. Our team is distributed across multiple locations.

Work Location/Model: This is a full-time, on-site role with occasional telecommuting opportunities based on organizational needs and priorities.

Key Responsibilities

Your technical leadership duties will encompass:

  • Leading and contributing to projects that involve technical analyses and software development focused on multi-body dynamics and cislunar operations.
  • Planning and executing in-depth studies, trade analyses, and assessments within cross-organizational teams to identify and meet customer requirements.

Your people management responsibilities will include:

  • Overseeing a team of seven to ten engineers, scientists, and interns tasked with modeling and simulating cislunar missions in support of various program offices and internal initiatives.
  • Collaborating with department managers to cultivate a high-performing organization of cislunar dynamics analysts within a diverse and inclusive setting.
  • Providing technical and managerial guidance in the design, development, and validation of cislunar mission strategies.
  • Supporting departmental and section staff in areas such as:
    • Business functions (e.g., capital/overhead budgets, resource allocations)
    • Managing project assignments
    • Leading projects and departmental initiatives
    • Facilitating staff development through formal and informal performance management
    • Participating in recruitment and hiring processes
    • Engaging extensively with technical working groups, briefings, and personal interactions with engineers, managers, program office personnel, contractors, government representatives, and Aerospace Senior Leadership
    • Conducting annual performance evaluations, reviews, and goal-setting for direct reports
    • Acting as a Local Employee Advocate (LEA) to assist staff whose direct manager is not local to them

Qualifications for Success as a Cislunar and Multi-Body Dynamics Engineering Manager

Minimum Requirements:

A bachelor's degree in aerospace engineering, physics, mathematics, or a related field, along with:

  • A minimum of five years of experience following the conferral of your degree.
  • Familiarity with principles of dynamic systems theory and n-body problems.
  • Experience collaborating with program office personnel associated with various systems.
  • Strong skills in hiring, mentoring, training, and developing team members.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication abilities, along with strong interpersonal skills.
  • Proven capability to initiate and complete projects, learn new technical methodologies, lead technical initiatives, and engage with a wide range of organizations.
  • An active TS/SCI clearance.

Preferred Qualifications

It would be advantageous if you possess one or more of the following, with preference given to candidates with multiple proficiencies:

  • A graduate degree in aerospace engineering, physics, or mathematics.
  • Current SAP Access.
  • Experience directly interfacing with government clients.
