Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled District Financial Manager to join our team at the School District of Brown Deer. This is a key role that will be responsible for maintaining the general ledger and ensuring compliance with Department of Instruction (DPI) guidelines and state statutes.

The successful candidate will have a strong background in accounting and experience in a K-12 public school setting. They will be responsible for gathering and preparing documents for the annual independent financial audit, performing student counts and completing DPI Membership reports, and reconciling bank and investment accounts.

The ideal candidate will have excellent communication skills and be able to effectively communicate financial data to others. They will also have a high degree of personal integrity and strict attention to detail.

Key Responsibilities

  • Maintains the general ledger and ensures compliance with DPI guidelines and state statutes.
  • Gathers and prepares documents for the annual independent financial audit.
  • Performs student counts and completes DPI Membership reports.
  • Reconciles bank and investment accounts.
  • Processes Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable.
  • Enters cash receipts and performs bank deposits.
  • Oversees electronic recordkeeping of the food service account and monitors student balances.
  • Reviews electronic recordkeeping of food service and student fee system with administrative assistants.
  • Updates account coding structure to comply with DPI requirements.
  • Assists in the streamlining of accounting functions and implementation of new or revised financial software applications.
  • Issues parent transportation contacts annually.
  • Manages retiree benefits.
  • Maintains vendor records and issues 1099s annually.
  • Oversees school activity accounts.
  • Maintains records for various donation and scholarship accounts.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree with a major in accounting.
  • Minimum 3 years of accounting experience; experience in a K-12 public school setting preferred.
  • Ability to quickly grasp public accounting procedures and communicate financial data to others.
  • A high degree of personal integrity and strict attention to detail.
  • Experience with Wisconsin Uniform Financial Accounting Requirements (WUFAR), Microsoft Office products, Google Suite, and Skyward SMS preferred.
