Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and compassionate Mental Health Treatment Aide to join our team at Physician Affiliate Group of New York. As a key member of our interdisciplinary team, you will provide critical support to patients with mental health issues, working collaboratively with healthcare professionals to deliver high-quality care.

Responsibilities
  • Conduct crisis and de-escalation interventions, therapeutic observations, and group sessions to support patients with mental health needs.
  • Orient patients to unit policies, procedures, and routines, ensuring a smooth transition to our care.
  • Identify patient characteristics and environmental factors that may trigger agitated behaviors, communicating this information to the treatment team.
  • Perform patient checks and rounds as required, ensuring the safety and well-being of our patients.
  • Communicate clinical matters to assigned Mental Health/DOC staff, reporting any unusual findings or changes in patient conditions.
  • Escort patients to groups or other required locations, providing support and guidance as needed.
  • Participate in departmental clinical training, staying up-to-date on best practices and evidence-based interventions.
  • May lead or co-lead groups/activities in areas such as anger management techniques and practices, documenting group activities as required.
  • Respond appropriately to patient emergencies, cooperating with DOC staff to ensure the safety of the unit.
  • Participate in regularly scheduled, in-person 1:1 supervision with the MHTA supervisor or designee.
  • Demonstrate a professional appearance and demeanor at all times, upholding the highest standards of our organization.

Job Hazards: Normal correctional health environment at facilities assigned.

Qualifications
  • An Associate's degree in Criminal Justice, Social Services, or a health-related area; or
  • A High School diploma or a GED and two years of full-time experience in Nursing Behavioral Health or a related field.
  • Or any combination of 1 and 2 above.
  • Ability to carry out written and oral instructions.
  • Ability to establish successful interpersonal relationships with patients and co-workers.
