Job Title: Mechanical Equipment Assistant

Under direct supervision during a designated shift, this role involves performing manual tasks to support the operation and upkeep of assigned machinery in a sewage treatment facility, pumping station, or power generation site.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assisting in the management, adjustment, repair, and lubrication of designated mechanical apparatus within a water reclamation facility and/or pumping station.
  • Applying lubricants to mechanical equipment such as pumps, blowers, fans, valves, and conveyors.
  • Monitoring equipment operating conditions, making minor modifications and repairs, and notifying the supervisor of any irregularities.
  • Documenting and recording meter, gauge, and chart readings while maintaining operational logs.

Additional Duties:

  • Transporting lubricants and tools throughout the water reclamation facility and pumping station.
  • Cleaning assigned machinery and workspaces, executing routine housekeeping tasks.
  • Changing oil, collecting samples, and managing lubricant containers.
  • Carrying out other assigned responsibilities as required.

Requirements:

  • Familiarity with high-pressure stationary boilers and the lubrication needs of equipment.
  • Awareness of safety protocols, occupational risks, and the ability to adhere to instructions.
  • Capability to accurately read and document various meters, gauges, and charts.

Qualifications:

A high school diploma or equivalent is required, along with two years of experience in engine or boiler room operations.

Additional experience may be considered in lieu of the required education.

  • One year of service as a Turbine Laborer or Maintenance Laborer A within the District.
  • Civil service status in the aforementioned classifications.
