Position Title: Campus Safety Officer (Weekends)

Reporting To: Director of Campus Safety

Department: Campus Safety

Classification: Part-Time, Non-exempt, Not benefits Eligible, 12-months

POSITION SUMMARY

LeMoyne-Owen College is seeking dedicated part-time campus safety officers to work during weekends, ensuring the protection and security of faculty, staff, students, and property. The responsibilities of the campus safety officer encompass monitoring assigned areas, conducting thorough observations, investigating suspicious activities, enforcing regulations, apprehending individuals, and compiling incident reports.

To excel in this role, a campus safety officer should collaborate effectively with all members of the campus safety team. An exemplary campus safety officer must be highly observant of irregularities and possess sound judgment in challenging situations.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Maintaining the safety and security of individuals and property
  • Patrolling assigned areas and responding to calls for assistance
  • Investigating and documenting suspicious occurrences
  • Securing and documenting evidence
  • Interviewing witnesses and victims
  • Apprehending suspects and offenders
  • Managing traffic and ensuring order at public events
  • Preparing reports on accidents and criminal activities
  • Assisting the public with legal and civil inquiries
  • Providing support to local law enforcement agencies as necessary

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • High school diploma or GED
  • Some college education preferred, but not mandatory
  • Ability to obtain a state of TN armed guard license (if applying for armed position)
  • Availability to work weekends

SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED

  • Strong communication, mediation, and conflict resolution skills
  • Effective verbal and written communication abilities
  • Analytical thinking and problem-solving capabilities
  • Excellent observation and decision-making skills
  • Familiarity with laws and law enforcement practices
  • Physical dexterity
  • Ability to collaborate and work effectively with team members

WORKING CONDITIONS/PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

Work is typically performed in both indoor and outdoor environments, with occasional extensive walking or standing. The employee may frequently be required to walk, stand, reach, and lift up to 50 pounds. The campus safety officer is expected to maintain a professional appearance, wearing a uniform as designated by the Campus Safety Director.
