Job Summary

The Child and Family Health Division is seeking a highly skilled Epidemiologist to join their team in the Birth Defects Monitoring & Analysis unit. As a key member of the team, you will be responsible for providing epidemiological capacity in birth defects surveillance activities and coordinating special projects, including follow-up surveys.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist in the maintenance of the surveillance system in the Minnesota Electronic Disease Surveillance System (MEDSS)
  • Database management, including data cleaning, analysis, and quality control
  • Collaborate with partners to synthesize results into written reports, publish papers, and present findings
  • Ensure data and evaluation results are translated into meaningful action
Requirements
  • Three years of experience in a public health setting, including designing and conducting epidemiologic investigations and/or surveillance
  • Knowledge of epidemiological principles, surveillance systems, relational databases, data analysis, and interpretation
  • Ability to conceptualize alternative solutions to complex issues
  • Experience with SAS, R, or related software
Preferred Qualifications
  • Master's or Doctoral degree in Epidemiology, Public Health, Maternal and Child Health, or a closely related field
  • Knowledge of maternal and child health, epidemiology of pregnancy-related risk and protective factors, conditions, and birth outcomes, including birth defects
  • Experience with survey design, sampling, administration/operations, and analysis of categorical data
  • Knowledge of and ability to carry out basic visual analytics, geographical analysis/GIS, and mapping using tools such as ArcGIS and Tableau
