Job Summary

The Child and Family Health Division is seeking a skilled Epidemiologist to join their team in the Birth Defects Monitoring and Analysis unit. This role will involve providing epidemiological capacity in birth defects surveillance activities and coordinating special projects.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist in the maintenance of the surveillance system in the Minnesota Electronic Disease Surveillance System (MEDSS)
  • Database management, including data cleaning, analysis, and quality control
  • Collaborate with partners to synthesize results into written reports, publish papers, and present findings
  • Translate data and evaluation results into meaningful action
Requirements
  • Three years of experience in a public health setting, including designing and conducting epidemiologic investigations and/or surveillance
  • Experience with data collection, analysis, and interpretation, as well as accessing electronic health records and vital records
  • Knowledge of epidemiological principles, surveillance systems, relational databases, and data analysis
  • Ability to conceptualize alternative solutions to complex issues and use SAS, R, or related software
Preferred Qualifications
  • Master's or Doctoral degree in Epidemiology, Public Health, Maternal and Child Health, or a closely related field
  • Knowledge of maternal and child health, epidemiology of pregnancy-related risk and protective factors, conditions, and birth outcomes, including birth defects
  • Experience with survey design, sampling, administration/operations, and analysis of categorical data
About the Role

This position is eligible for telework and occasional travel for in-person meetings, trainings, and conferences is expected. Reimbursement for authorized business travel expenses is provided according to bargaining unit guidelines.
