RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Conducts and instructs assigned classes at designated times and locations.
  • Designs a curriculum that caters to the individual needs, interests, and abilities of students.
  • Establishes a classroom environment that promotes learning and aligns with the maturity and interests of students.
  • Directs the learning process towards achieving established curriculum goals, clearly communicating objectives for all lessons, units, and projects.
  • Prepares for assigned classes and provides written evidence of preparation upon request from supervisors as per contractual obligations.
  • Utilizes a variety of instructional methods and media, considering the physical constraints of the location and the needs of students.
  • Strives to implement the district's educational philosophy, instructional goals, and performance expectations through teaching and actions.
  • Regularly assesses student progress, provides necessary reports, and communicates with parents as needed.
  • Maintains accurate and complete records as mandated by law, district policy, and administrative regulations.
  • Identifies learning challenges faced by students and seeks assistance from district specialists when necessary.
  • Takes all reasonable precautions to safeguard students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
  • Adheres to the SPS code of conduct for classrooms, developing and enforcing fair and just rules of behavior.
  • Plans and oversees tasks for paraprofessionals, providing written evaluations as required.
  • Engages in ongoing professional development that meets district requirements and personal professional goals.
  • Participates actively in the teacher evaluation process, contributing to a mutual understanding of evaluation results.
  • Attends meetings to enhance communication and collaborative decision-making among staff, scheduled during extended hours.
  • Participates in school-sponsored events as agreed upon with administration, in accordance with contractual obligations.
  • Contributes to district and building decisions regarding budget, facilities, curriculum, and overall well-being.
  • Aims to maintain and enhance professional competence.



QUALIFICATIONS:


  • Highly qualified with demonstrated competency in the music content area; and
  • Possession of an appropriate educator license in Music (Vocal/Instrumental/General) for all grade levels from the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education; and
  • A Bachelor's Degree with the requisite license; or
  • A Master's Degree with the appropriate content area license preferred, or expected within five years.
