Job Summary

The MacPhail Music For Life Instructor is a key member of our team, responsible for delivering high-quality group music instruction to older adults as part of our creative aging music education program.

Responsibilities
  • Provide engaging and adaptive group music instruction to older adults in various settings, including independent and assisted living residences, care centers, adult day centers, community centers, and MacPhail.
  • Develop and implement music resources and materials tailored to meet the specific needs of our partnerships.
  • Ensure timely communication with students, families, partnerships, and MacPhail administration regarding student progress, scheduling, and administrative policies.
  • Establish and maintain positive relationships with students, families, and partnerships, fostering a supportive learning environment.
  • Act as a liaison between partnership site staff and the MacPhail Music For Life administrative team, promoting effective collaboration and communication.
  • Participate in Music For Life training and continuing education programs as requested by the MacPhail Music For Life Manager, staying up-to-date with best practices and industry developments.
  • Represent MacPhail positively in the community, promoting our programs and services, and encouraging students to participate in MacPhail opportunities.
  • Attend MacPhail, department, and program meetings as required, contributing to the growth and development of our organization.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in music or equivalent experience; MT-BC certification preferred.
  • Experience working with older adults, including those with memory loss, and leading music programs for young children (for intergenerational programs).
  • Strong piano and/or guitar skills, with the ability to adapt music resources and materials.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with a positive attitude and demeanor.
  • Flexibility, adaptability, and a patient and fun personality, with the ability to work in a self-directed manner.
