Job Summary

We are seeking a skilled Utilities Technician to perform underground utility line locations for Sunshine State One Call of Florida and the Federal Pipeline Safety Act. The successful candidate will assist with construction observations of utility installations and utility testing.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform underground utility line locates for informational transfer for outside requests.
  • Analyze sub-surface data using ground-penetrating radar unit for underground utility locations.
  • Perform internal locate requests for design and report findings to project managers.
  • Provide updates to engineering for geodatabase changes in the field.
  • Prepare routine and/or descriptive reports; maintain records and daily logs.
  • Operate excavation equipment to pothole and locate underground utility assets.
  • Assist in observance of Low-Pressure System (LPS) installs.
  • Assist in the completion of Customer Service Requests.
  • Provide exceptional customer assistance, problem-solving, and/or complaint resolution by all forms of communication.
Requirements
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • One (1) year of experience in utility construction.
  • Maintain a valid driver's license.
  • Maintain Maintenance of Traffic (MOT) certification from the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) within three (3) months of position assignment.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Knowledge of departmental policies, plans, and procedures.
  • Knowledge of modern office practices, plans, and procedures.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and other job-related computer programs and software applications.
  • Knowledge of the methods, materials, and equipment to locate underground utilities including water, sewer, reuse, phone cable, electric, and gas mains.
  • Knowledge of occupational hazards of the types of work performed and of necessary precautions; ability to recognize dangerous conditions.
Work Environment

The work environment is exposed to outdoor weather conditions or irate customers, extreme noise, extreme heat, and/or dust.
