Position Title: Family Teacher (Transitional Living Program)

Qualifications: A minimum of a high school diploma or equivalent is required, along with at least one year of experience working with children. A bachelor's degree in social sciences, education, or a related field from an accredited institution is preferred, along with relevant experience. A valid driver's license and a satisfactory driving record are necessary. Experience with youth in foster care or those who have faced homelessness is highly desirable. Familiarity with the Teaching-Family Model is also preferred.

Position Summary: This role reports directly to the Transitional Living Program Supervisor. Utilizing the Teaching-Family Model, the Family Teacher applies their expertise, training, and experience to create and implement tailored treatment plans for each youth, alongside a therapeutic daily schedule that addresses the needs of all residents. Compliance with organizational policies and procedures is essential. This is a full-time, salaried (exempt) position that typically follows an "eight days on, six days off" schedule, requiring staff to reside at the community-based transitional living home during workdays.

Supervision Responsibilities: The Family Teacher oversees volunteers working with residents to ensure appropriate interactions that positively influence treatment. They guide Relief and Part-time Family Teachers in problem-solving and executing the transitional living and treatment plans developed under the direct supervision of the Program Supervisor.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and manage the assessment and intake process for all transitional youth entering the residential program.
  • Complete all necessary intake and screening documentation promptly.
  • Ensure timely execution of assessment tools within the first week of intake.
  • Collaborate with youth to implement individualized treatment plans based on assessment data.
  • Conduct weekly life skills groups focusing on independent living skills and positive youth development.
  • Apply training to teach essential skills aligned with the transitional living plan.
  • Regularly review and discuss weekly goals with each youth in the group home setting.
  • Support youth in identifying natural supports and fostering healthy relationships.
  • Coordinate transportation needs for transitional youth.
  • Assess and report maintenance needs for the facility.
  • Implement organizational policies and procedures consistently.
  • Maintain accurate records and manage expenditures according to organizational guidelines.
  • Address trauma needs of youth and develop individualized treatment approaches.
  • Work towards professional certification in the Teaching-Family Model.
  • Participate in the PQI process through data recording and assessments.
  • Fulfill additional duties as required to meet treatment needs.
