Job Overview

First Merchants Bank is in search of a Commercial Credit Specialist to enhance our team. This role is pivotal in executing and advising on policies and procedures that ensure effective management of portfolio risk, concentration management, credit risk evaluation, and oversight of special assets.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Serve as Chair for the Regional or Line of Business Loan Committee, as assigned.
  • Lead the Regional Special Assets and Watch Committees, as designated.
  • Participate as a member of a Line of Business Loan Committee, as required.
  • Execute additional responsibilities, including the approval of Environmental Due Diligence Checklists, construction draws, and administrative renewals.
  • Collaborate with the RCCO to supervise standard credit processes, procedures, and policies while ensuring timely and precise grading of the commercial credit portfolio.
  • Act as a member of the Regional or Line of Business and Regional Special Assets Loan Committees as designated.
  • Communicate significant asset quality concerns and issues to the Regional Chief Credit Officer.
  • Prepare regional or line of business migration reports on commercial credit portfolio asset quality, including grading, impairment, non-accrual, and charge-off recognition.
  • Monitor and manage the delinquency status, construction loan status, borrowing base reporting, marketable security reporting, and loan covenant compliance for the region or line of business.
  • Ensure adherence to corporate concentration limits and thresholds within the region or line of business.
  • Guarantee the timely completion of Annual Credit Reviews.
  • With RCCO approval, respond to audits, loan reviews, FDIC, and other internal and external examining bodies.
  • Complete compliance and other assigned training programs.
  • Engage as a member of the business management team.
  • Assist the Regional Chief Credit Officer in organizing meetings, including setting agenda items, preparing materials, and meeting logistics.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, business, or a related field.
  • A minimum of six (6) years of experience in commercial credit or a related area.

Preferred Qualifications:

Master's degree in accounting, finance, business, or a related field.
