Job Title: Behavior Specialist

**Job Summary:**

Thomaston-Upson Schools is seeking a highly skilled Behavior Specialist to join our team. The successful candidate will be responsible for providing behavioral interventions and support to students with disabilities.

**Key Responsibilities:**

  • Develop and implement behavioral intervention plans to increase student performance and promote positive behavior.
  • Conduct functional behavior assessments and develop behavior intervention plans (BIPs) to address student behavior.
  • Provide instructional support to students on an itinerant basis, based on individualized education programs (IEPs) and BIPs.
  • Observe students and provide special education services to support students with disabilities.
  • Collaborate with parents, teachers, administrators, and other professionals to develop and implement student educational programs.
  • Coordinate the assignments of itinerant paraprofessional staff as needed.
  • Participate in IEP, BIP, and other student development and achievement-related conferences with parents, students, counselors, teachers, and administrators.
  • Attend meetings, conferences, and professional learning sessions to stay current on best practices in special education.
  • Maintain accurate records of student progress and program implementation.
  • Support teachers in collecting progress monitoring data and provide coaching on effective instructional strategies.
  • Model effective instructional and behavioral interventions for students with disabilities and lead professional learning activities to support district initiatives.
  • Stay current on development literature and technical sources of information related to job responsibilities.
  • Ensure adherence to safety procedures and follow federal and state laws, as well as Board policies and administrative directives.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the SPED Director.

**Requirements:**

  • Preferred Board Certified Behavior Analyst Certification (BCBA) or Registered Behavior Technician Certification.
  • Hold or be eligible for required certification.
  • Ability to work well with students, parents, staff, and the community.
  • High integrity, excellent character, and good professional reputation.
  • Ability to abide by the Georgia Professional Standards Code of Ethics for Educators.
  • Ability to be regularly, predictably, and reliably at work.
  • Ability to perform tasks involving prolonged periods of standing, walking, and sitting.
  • Ability to perform routine physical activities such as bending and lifting/pushing/pulling up to 50 pounds.
  • Vision, hearing, written, and verbal communications are essential factors in performing required tasks.
  • Ability to properly and consistently supervise students, particularly during emergency situations.
