Role Summary:

The iOS Developer Experience team is responsible for creating the necessary infrastructure and tools that ensure the efficiency and speed of Block's iOS development at scale. This team acts as a significant force multiplier, enhancing the developer experience for all iOS engineers at Block. Our primary focus is on optimizing both the local Integrated Development Environment (IDE) and Continuous Integration (CI) processes within our extensive and modularized monorepo codebase. Your contributions will include enhancing our CI pipelines, working within our Bazel-based infrastructure, and developing local iOS-specific tools.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Enhance the speed and efficiency of the iOS developer experience using Bazel.
  • Boost the productivity of our iOS engineers in developing, testing, and delivering applications to our users.
  • Identify and resolve performance issues within the iOS development workflow.
  • Improve the performance and usability of our build tools.
  • Assist in defining the team's scope and priorities by identifying opportunities to minimize build times, simplify systems, and enhance the developer experience.
  • Ensure the successful execution of team projects, achieving measurable outcomes.
Qualifications:

Required:

  • A strong enthusiasm for improving the development speed of fellow engineers and enhancing their overall experience.
  • Proven experience leading initiatives that enhance developer productivity.
  • Familiarity with build and CI tools such as Jenkins, BuildKite, and fastlane.
  • Solid software engineering expertise with the capability to provide technical mentorship.

Preferred:

  • Experience with Bazel, Blaze, or Buck build systems.
  • Knowledge of reverse engineering Xcode, macOS, or iOS applications.
  • Proficiency in iOS/Mac development languages (Swift, Objective-C) and related tools (xcodebuild, clang, swift, ld, actool, ibtool, and codesign).
  • Familiarity with Starlark, Python, and Ruby.

Block adopts a market-based approach to compensation, which may vary based on your location. The starting salary for successful candidates will be influenced by job-related skills, experience, qualifications, and market conditions. Our compensation ranges are subject to future adjustments.
