Position Overview: Leidos is in search of an AI Cybersecurity Research Engineer to contribute to the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Office of the Chief Information Security Officer.

The selected candidate will collaborate with a dedicated team to formulate strategies that support the DHS' Vulnerability Management Branch. This role presents a unique opportunity to shape and implement significant AI and cybersecurity policies at the federal level.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Possess a Bachelor’s degree in a STEM field, ideally in mathematics or cybersecurity, along with relevant experience.
  • Assess ongoing risks and threats to both federal and non-federal information systems stemming from AI-driven attacks.
  • Assist in the formulation of AI and cybersecurity-related policies for DHS.
  • Communicate strategies and procedures to senior DHS officials both verbally and in written formats.
  • Conduct research to develop a comprehensive understanding of AI policy and enforcement across federal agencies.
  • Create presentations that simplify complex policy and regulatory topics for senior leadership.
  • Identify trends and opportunities for improvement based on assessments of AI and cybersecurity.
Required Qualifications:
  • 12-15 years of relevant experience in AI and Cybersecurity.
  • Extensive hands-on experience (minimum of 10 years) in data modeling, data engineering, feature engineering, model lifecycle management, and cloud infrastructure, including supervised and unsupervised deep learning algorithms.
  • Proficient in data analysis, modeling, and visualization tools such as TensorFlow, Keras, PyTorch, Caffe, and Theano, with experience in programming languages like Python.
  • A minimum of a STEM-related Bachelor’s degree, preferably in mathematics or cybersecurity.
  • Familiarity with NIST standards, including federal agency policy implementation and contractor adherence to these policies.
  • Experience with modern development tools and methodologies, including GitLab and Jira.
  • Knowledge of containerization technologies such as AWS ECS and Docker.
  • Exceptional writing skills with experience in creating public-facing documents or published academic work.
  • Ability to build effective working relationships with senior-level clients, technical staff, and peers.
  • Outstanding verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong analytical, critical thinking, and problem-solving abilities.
  • Eligibility to obtain TS/SCI clearance.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience with server virtualization technologies like VMware, VirtualBox, or Hyper-V.
  • Hands-on experience with AWS Sagemaker.
  • Familiarity with penetration testing, malware analysis, and network traffic analysis.
  • Understanding of basic statistical concepts.
