About the Role

Housing Works is seeking a highly skilled Custodian to join our Commercial Facilities team. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for ensuring the cleanliness and maintenance of our commercial locations, including communication with Facility Managers and other stakeholders.

Responsibilities
  • Ensure all physical spaces are sanitary, clean, and orderly, adhering to regulatory requirements and company policies.
  • Comply with scheduled or routine custodial and maintenance plans to maintain common, kitchen, and office areas in a clean and sanitary manner.
  • Be proactive in communicating daily activities and significant conditions that may impact task accomplishment to Facility Managers.
  • Adhere to the scheduled or routine custodial and maintenance plans to ensure all common, kitchen, and office areas are maintained in a clean, sanitary, and orderly manner.
  • Ensure restrooms are sanitary and attractive throughout the day, with adequate supplies as needed.
  • Empty trash bins, shredders, and recycling bins throughout the day, and sanitize containers weekly.
  • Dust and vacuum all offices and common spaces, as well as general maintenance needs, including light bulbs, moving and arranging office furniture, and polishing metalwork as needed.
  • Ensure all debris, water, snow, and garbage from hallways, sidewalks, and entrances and exits are cleared for staff and client safety and compliance with facility leases.
  • Assume responsibility for care and maintenance of tools, equipment, and cleaning supplies.
  • Check in with Senior Custodians and Facility Managers to be aware of and address the Salesforce-based work order system, as per agency policy.
  • Provide excellent customer service and respond to customer requests/work order inquiries in a timely and courteous manner.
  • Perform office moves, minor construction projects (patching, painting, etc.) as needed.
  • Serve as the major liaison with site supervisors and Facility Managers to ensure communication of housekeeping needs are being met.
  • Advise Facility Managers about personnel requirements, material needs, subcontract requirements, facility, and equipment needs to meet or exceed operational plans.
  • Help coordinate activities with all other functions of the organization and suppliers to obtain optimum production and utilization of human resources, IT, and equipment.
  • Ensure all assigned employees are aware of and comply with company, government, and customer policies, procedures, and regulations.
  • Help monitor facility security and safety by performing tasks such as locking doors and checking electrical appliances to ensure safety hazards are not created.
  • People and Teamwork: Demonstrate excellent teamwork and foster this with all coworkers and clients. Build relationships with other Housing Works Departments and demonstrate excellent teamwork and growing this within the department and organization.
  • Maintain a high level of professionalism, integrity, and communication with other staff.
  • Provide excellent internal and external customer service; recognize the needs of team members and be direct, specific, and non-punishing in communication and behaviors.
  • Advocacy: Participate in advocacy and direct action to end the twin crisis of homelessness and HIV/AIDS.
Requirements
  • High School Diploma or GED and at least one year of commercial housekeeping experience.
