Position Overview
We provide a merit-based remote work option depending on job responsibilities. Following initial in-person training, this role may allow for up to 3 days of remote work each week.
Auto-Owners Insurance, a highly regarded insurance provider, is looking for an enthusiastic underwriting trainee to fill this role. This position involves applying insurance policies, regulations, and guidelines to facilitate the underwriting decision-making process in alignment with the Company’s underwriting philosophy. The role includes comprehensive training and development through the completion of the Company’s underwriter training program for the designated line of insurance and requires the individual to:
- Gain knowledge of various insurance coverages and contracts along with the company’s philosophy and procedures to make informed underwriting decisions.
- Interpret and respond to documents such as policies, manuals, forms, and endorsements to grasp their significance and application.
- Compile information, formulate opinions, and articulate decisions using sound reasoning and judgment.
- Evaluate loss history, financial conditions, and physical characteristics of risks.
- Develop a foundational understanding of supporting sections within the underwriting department.
- Communicate effectively with independent agents and colleagues through both verbal and written means.
- Engage in and successfully complete the Company’s underwriter training program.
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in property/casualty underwriting.
- Capability to organize data, manage multiple tasks, and make independent decisions.
- Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Proficiency in report writing and correspondence composition.
- Aptitude for resolving complex issues.
- Commitment to continuous product knowledge enhancement through participation in approved educational programs.
