Job Overview

Position Summary: The Staff Accountant plays a crucial role in facilitating various accounting operations, including but not limited to Accounts Payable (AP), Accounts Receivable (AR), payroll processing, general ledger maintenance, and reconciliation of bank and credit card accounts. This position also involves assisting in the preparation of financial reports and contributing to annual tax and budget planning.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Ensure timely and accurate record-keeping for all payables and receivables, adhering to The Plaza's accounting policies.
  • Process and manage weekly AP invoices and payments through checks, ePayables, or credit cards.
  • Reconcile vendor account statements to guarantee prompt payments.
  • Maintain AR by updating cash receipts, transferring funds, invoicing resident accounts, and reconciling monthly billing transactions.
  • Review and post payroll while reconciling quarterly benefit reports.
  • Prepare and record manual payroll checks as needed.
  • Assist in managing The Plaza's Credit Card Program, including expense reporting and data integration into the accounting system.
  • Prepare and report monthly General Excise Tax (GET) and manage tax payments.
  • Review and post monthly recurring journal entries and record prepaid expense journal entries.
  • Conduct reconciliations of bank and credit card accounts.
  • Review and reconcile general ledger accounts and census information for financial statement preparation.
  • Prepare and analyze monthly financial packets for accuracy and completeness.
  • Provide accounting support to community Business Office Managers and Administrators to ensure accurate billing and payment processes.
  • Collaborate with other departments and participate in community meetings and training sessions as required.
  • Adhere to all employment standards outlined in the Team Member Handbook and Procedural Manuals.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by the Controller.

Qualifications:

  • Required: Bachelor's Degree from an accredited institution or equivalent relevant work experience.
  • Proficiency in business, accounting, and office software, along with familiarity with office equipment.

Preferred:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Accounting.
  • Three years of experience in a Staff Accountant or similar role.
  • One year of experience handling high volumes of APs, ARs, and billing transactions.
  • Familiarity with accounting software such as PointClickCare, SAGE Intacct, and Enquire.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, including Excel, Word, and Outlook.
  • Experience with office equipment such as copiers, scanners, and fax machines.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Excellent organizational skills; detail-oriented with the ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines.
  • Willingness to adapt and learn new skills.

Physical Requirements:

This position requires frequent sitting and standing, occasional reaching, bending, and repetitive motions. The ability to operate a computer and lift occasionally is necessary. Candidates must meet health standards as per company policies.

Compensation: Starting salary is $60,000 per year, negotiable based on experience.
