ROLE SUMMARY

The Radiology Technologist plays a crucial role in assisting medical professionals during diagnostic and therapeutic procedures. This involves preparing patients and operating x-ray machinery to capture essential diagnostic images.

Patient Care Responsibilities:
  • Ensures patient safety and comfort throughout their visit to the radiology department.
  • Clearly explains procedures and post-procedure instructions to patients to alleviate anxiety and gain cooperation.
  • Prioritizes workflow based on patient conditions, ensuring timely arrivals and departures.
  • Creates a welcoming environment to foster patient trust and confidence.
  • Utilizes patient satisfaction data to identify areas for improvement and engages in enhancement initiatives.
Compliance Responsibilities:
  • Adheres to OSHA regulations and implements universal precautions as necessary.
  • Maintains cleanliness of examination surfaces between patients.
  • Ensures availability of clean linens, including sheets, gowns, and towels.
  • Promptly addresses spills following safety protocols.
  • Stores equipment properly when not in use.
Team Collaboration:
  • Engages in effective communication with colleagues to achieve team and patient objectives.
  • Participates in regular staff meetings to discuss operational matters.
Technical Proficiency:
  • Operates equipment safely and effectively to capture diagnostic images.
  • Maintains sterile environments and equipment.
  • Adjusts imaging devices to achieve optimal density and contrast.
  • Conducts necessary quality control procedures on imaging equipment.
  • Evaluates images for quality and determines the need for re-examination.
Additional Duties:
The incumbent may be required to undertake additional responsibilities as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education: High School Diploma or GED required. Graduate of an accredited Radiology program.

Experience: Preferred 2 years of experience in diagnostic radiology. Refer to the Life Support Training Policy for further details.

Licensure: ARRT certification or registry eligibility required. Registry-eligible technologists must pass the ARRT certification exam in Radiology within 90 days of hire. State licensure as applicable.

Skills and Requirements:
  • In-depth knowledge of radiographic equipment and accessories.
  • Strong analytical skills and basic computer proficiency.
  • Ability to adapt care based on patient age and needs.
  • Effective communication skills and capability to work independently in diagnostic settings.
  • Ability to multitask and prioritize effectively.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS

Physical Demand Code: 13A, Imaging

Work Function/Activity: Medium to Heavy Physical Demand

This role requires prolonged standing, frequent reaching, and the ability to lift/push/pull up to 100 lbs. Safe Handling Equipment must be used for weights exceeding 35 lbs. Exposure to radiation may occur. This job description may be modified at any time at the discretion of UVA Health Northern VA & Culpeper.

OTHER REQUIREMENTS
  • May require the use of safety equipment for infection prevention.
  • On-call responsibilities may be assigned.
  • Ability to travel between various facilities as needed.
