Pearson Education Services is seeking a dedicated Site Reliability Engineer (SRE) to enhance our cloud-based applications. In this role, you will collaborate with software development, rapid response, and incident management teams to design and maintain highly available and scalable systems within the AWS cloud environment. You will also provide operational support for multi-cloud infrastructure and applications (AWS and Azure) until the transition to AWS is fully realized and stable.
Key Responsibilities:
- Collaborate with engineering teams to determine and implement optimal cloud solutions on AWS.
- Address and resolve complex technical challenges.
- Demonstrate the ability to work autonomously with minimal supervision.
- Enhance performance, scalability, and resilience of the platform.
- Manage critical incidents, lead post-incident reviews, and ensure effective resolution.
- Contribute to the establishment of best practices for Infrastructure as Code, software development tools, and Continuous Integration.
- Oversee the operation and maintenance of Pearson Cloud systems.
- Administer cloud services, including monitoring, logging, and alerting systems.
- Support automation efforts and scripting for cloud deployments and migrations.
- Minimize repetitive tasks through automation solutions.
- Assist with cross-cloud applications (AWS and Azure).
- Engage in an on-call support rotation.
- 6+ years of experience in architecting, designing, developing, and implementing cloud solutions on AWS platforms.
- Advanced knowledge of AWS services such as EC2, ECS, IAM, CloudWatch, Lambda, FSx, ECR, S3, EFS, and Route53.
- Proficiency in Infrastructure as Code tools like CloudFormation or Terraform.
- Experience with container technologies including Docker and Kubernetes.
- Advanced skills in task automation using Python, PowerShell, NodeJS, bash, or similar programming languages.
- Familiarity with Windows Operating System, Active Directory, and IIS.
- Strong understanding of the five pillars of well-architected frameworks.
- Experience in monitoring cloud systems using tools such as NewRelic, CloudWatch, and Datadog.
- Ability to debug and optimize code, as well as automate routine processes.
- Familiarity with agile software development methodologies, including Jira.
- Proficient in version control systems like Git, GitLab, or GitHub.
- Experience with programming languages such as C#, Java, or Golang.
- Expertise in designing, analyzing, and troubleshooting large-scale distributed systems.
- Solid understanding of networking protocols and cybersecurity best practices in cloud environments.
- Methodical problem-solving skills, strong communication abilities, and a proactive attitude.
- Experience in building CI/CD pipelines using Azure DevOps, GitHub Actions, GitLab CI/CD, Jenkins, etc.
- AWS Solution Architect Associate certification is a plus.
- HashiCorp Terraform certification is a plus.
