Fire/Life Safety Inspectors play a vital role in preventing, detecting, and mitigating the impact of fires. You'll perform tasks such as minor repairs and visual and functional testing on fire alarm systems in accordance with national and local standards. You'll also inspect, test, and maintain fire sprinkler systems and other water-based systems in accordance with national and local standards. In addition to your primary responsibilities, you'll act as a mentor, providing on-the-job training to entry-level fire alarm inspectors, fostering a culture of growth and knowledge-sharing within our team.
As a Fire/Life Safety Inspector, you'll:
- Follow and maintain high-structured inspection schedules, providing inspection, testing, and performing minor service and deficiency repairs for fire alarm and sprinkler equipment to comply with NFPA 72 standards and state and local codes. Note deficiencies, remedies, and review pricing with customers. Complete service ticket documentation before leaving the customer site. Follow-up on corrective actions.
- Maintain complete and accurate documentation of all tests performed. Generate reports within Siemens tools and upload to city municipality websites.
- Provide instructions to customer personnel regarding proper operation and routine inspections. Assist with training.
- Work overtime when needed, and maintain stock, tools, and equipment in vehicles.
- Adhere to local, corporate, and OSHA safety policies and procedures.
- Complete required training and certifications within the time requirements for this role.
- Provide inspection, testing, and service for wet, dry, pre-action, and deluge fire sprinkler systems; backflow preventers; water tanks; fire hydrants; foam-based systems; water mist systems; and fire pumps per NFPA 25 standards.
- Complete required documentation, including deficiency repair recommendations. Discuss noted deficiencies, remedies, and pricing with customers and follow up on corrective actions.
- Provide subject matter expertise to peers.
You'll make an impact with these qualifications:
Basic Qualifications:
- 1+ year of experience performing Inspections, Testing, and Maintenance (ITM) of Fire Life Safety Systems.
- Ability and willingness to work in a variety of environments in and around mechanical and electrical equipment, including climbing ladders, scaffolds, and high-lift equipment, working in ducts, above ceilings, and in outside/inside/heat/cold/day/night conditions; use hand tools, laptop (Microsoft proficient), email, smartphone, and tablet; carry and move equipment and tools weighing up to 75 pounds unassisted.
- Must be able to demonstrate the ability to read and understand design and construction documents.
- On-the-job experience estimating impairment, deficiencies, and service repairs.
- Must have or obtain NICET Level II Certification in Inspection and Testing Water-Based Systems or state certification within 12 months.
- Must be able to differentiate types/colors of wire.
- Must be 18 years of age and possess a valid driver's license with limited violations.
- Legally authorized to work in the United States on a continual and permanent basis without company sponsorship.
Preferred Qualifications:
- High school diploma or state-recognized GED; Associate degree in electronics or related field preferred.
- Must obtain NICET Fire Alarm Certification Level II within 12 months.
- 3+ years' experience performing Inspections, Testing, and Maintenance (ITM) of Fire/Life Safety Systems.
- Ability to read/understand design and construction documents.
