Role Summary: Under the supervision of the Laboratory Director, the Phlebotomist is responsible for performing clerical tasks within the laboratory and collecting specimens for various clinical laboratory analyses. This role ensures that all collected specimens meet the necessary standards for accurate laboratory results while maintaining proper sanitary protocols for both patients and laboratory staff.
Key Responsibilities:
- Answering phone calls and directing inquiries to the appropriate personnel.
- Collecting urine samples utilizing designated laboratory equipment.
- Executing fingerstick procedures as required.
- Performing venipuncture for specimen collection as necessary.
- Maintaining a clean and organized specimen collection area.
- Keeping accurate patient logs and documentation.
- Managing supplies and inventory for the phlebotomy area.
- Assisting with additional tasks as assigned by supervisory staff.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Training or experience in phlebotomy techniques.
Physical Requirements:
This position requires a full range of motion, including manual dexterity and coordination. Frequent walking, sitting, bending, and standing for extended periods are necessary. The role may involve lifting and carrying items weighing up to 25 pounds, along with the need for visual acuity and normal color perception.
Work Environment:
Employees may encounter exposure to communicable diseases, hazardous materials, and other conditions typical of a clinical setting. There may be occasional requirements for evening or weekend shifts.
