Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Medical Assistant to join our team at Michigan Institute of Urology. As a Medical Assistant, you will play a vital role in providing exceptional patient care and supporting our medical staff in a fast-paced office environment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Prepare procedure rooms for local procedures by setting up instrumentation, checking case supplies, and opening sterile instruments/supplies in an aseptic technique.
  • Assist physicians during local procedures, utilizing aseptic technique and demonstrating knowledge of universal precautions, PPE, and aseptic technique.
  • Accurately document procedures on procedure-specific memos and use and document on the Electronic Health Record.
  • Mix medications on order of the physician, demonstrating knowledge of universal precautions and personal protective equipment while mixing medications.
  • Perform injections/installations on order of the physician, accurately documenting in the medical record.
  • Draw and process blood specimens, complete related paperwork, and document in and maintain specimen logs, medication logs, MA lab logs, sterilization logs, etc.
  • Insert/remove urinary catheters, clean and complete high-level disinfection of cystoscopes, and participate in the decontamination and processing of procedure instrumentation.
  • Operate the autoclave, including cleaning, sterilization parameters, and maintenance of autoclave records, and use and operate load control products, i.e., biological indicators, and maintain these records.
  • Assist in room clean-up, removing soiled instrumentation, supplies, and trash from the procedure room, wiping down furniture/equipment, and occasionally mopping floors and emptying trash containers.
  • Clean lab areas, including wiping down surfaces, emptying garbage cans, and cleaning restrooms as needed.
  • Operate the Clinitek Machine (urinalysis) and demonstrate knowledge of cold sterilization, including mixing solution, handling solution, solution parameters, and expiration dates, and maintenance of solution logs.
  • Restock supply cupboards, labs, and rooms as needed, and assist in the maintenance of equipment as needed.
  • Transport laboratory specimens, x-ray films, instruments, and/or supplies as needed/requested.
  • Collaborate with orientation of new personnel in the office as requested and/or assigned.
  • Report to the supervisor when the office schedule is finished to assist office personnel in other areas.
Requirements
  • High School graduate or GED; Medical Assistant diploma required.
  • Medical Assistant certification is preferred.
  • 1 year of medical assistant office experience demonstrating competency is preferred.
  • Basic computer knowledge and skills are required.
