Job Summary

We are seeking an Environmental Health and Safety (EH&S) Technician to join our team at South Bay Sand Blasting & Tank Cleaning, Inc. in Norfolk, VA. The ideal candidate will provide a variety of duties including ship inspections, training, coordination of hazardous waste removal, sample collection, and more.


Responsibilities:
  • Perform various physical duties as assigned, including ship inspections and hazardous waste removal.
  • Use proper Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and follow safety protocols.
  • Conduct training sessions and provide safety data sheets.
  • Coordinate with colleagues to ensure compliance with OSHA Maritime Standards.
  • Recordkeeping and data analysis.
  • Sample collection and industrial hygiene surveys.
  • Accident investigations and root cause analysis.

Qualifications:
  • High school diploma or equivalent, with a focus on environmental health and safety.
  • Two years of experience in EH&S, with a strong understanding of OSHA Maritime Standards.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively in a team environment.
  • Computer skills in Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Ability to read and understand technical English.

Working Conditions and Physical Demands:

The work environment is dynamic and fast-paced, with frequent exposure to prevailing weather conditions. The individual must be able to climb inclined stairways and vertical, and work in confined spaces. Safety equipment is required, and the individual must be able to stand and walk for long periods of time.


Other Requirements:

All positions require a pre-employment medical test. This employer participates in E-Verify and requires U.S. Citizenship. Ability to read technical English is a must. DBIDS security clearance is required.
