Police Officer

We are seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Public Safety Officer to join our team at the Yurok Tribe. As a Public Safety Officer, you will be responsible for maintaining law and order, protecting life and property, and enforcing laws and regulations within our community.

• Patrol and Respond: Patrol assigned areas to ensure the security of life and property, observe situations, and deter crime by providing high visibility.
• Enforce Laws and Regulations: Enforce tribal ordinances, issue verbal warnings and citations, and pursue and apprehend suspects as required.
• Investigate Incidents: Investigate reported crimes, interview witnesses, and collect and preserve physical evidence.
• Prepare Reports: Write legible reports and other documents as required, and prepare reports and other required documents using correct spelling, grammar, and punctuation.
• Provide Emergency Services: Provide emergency aid and assistance to incapacitated persons, and request additional response as needed.
• Interact with the Public: Provide information, directions, and other services and assistance to the public, and speak to individuals and groups explaining the law, police actions taken, safety and crime prevention measures, and provide safety information to businesses.

• Education and Experience: Must possess a Basic Academy Certificate from a California POST-approved police academy or equivalent, and a high school diploma or GED is required.
• Background Check: Must pass a comprehensive background check in accordance with California Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST) requirements for peace officers.
• Skills and Knowledge: Must have the ability to understand and follow both oral and written guidelines, and have knowledge of basic law enforcement terminology and concepts, techniques for dealing with people of all socio-economic levels under hostile and emergency situations, safety practices and precautions pertaining to the work, first aid methods and their applications.

This position requires the ability to work in a fast-paced environment, make quick decisions, and respond to emergency situations. The Public Safety Officer must be able to lift or carry unconscious, injured, or combative people, and must have a valid telephone service.
