Position Overview

Salary: $18.07/hr

The Center for Biological Diversity is seeking dedicated law clerks for a summer position who are passionate about justice and environmental conservation. While the primary location will be in Oakland, California, remote work options are available.

The Center for Biological Diversity is committed to the belief that human welfare is intricately connected to the natural world, emphasizing the importance of biodiversity. Our mission is to secure a sustainable future for all species through a combination of scientific research, legal action, grassroots initiatives, and innovative media strategies.

Our Oakland office is home to a team of over 10 attorneys addressing a wide range of critical issues, including endangered species protection, ocean conservation, climate change, environmental health, water resource management, biomass energy, public land preservation, and urban-wildland land use.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform legal research and writing tasks, which include drafting legal memoranda, preparing administrative comments, assisting with brief preparation, investigating new cases, and composing official policy comments.
  • Occasionally observe court proceedings or attend agency hearings to provide public testimony.

Skills and Experience Development:

  • Gain experience in environmental advocacy, utilizing litigation, scientific research, media engagement, and grassroots organizing to promote environmental and public health initiatives.

Qualifications:

  • Completion of at least one year of law school;
  • Strong capabilities in legal research and writing;
  • Creativity and self-motivation;
  • A background in environmental or biological studies or social justice advocacy is preferred but not mandatory.
