**Job Summary:**
Trocaire College is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Academic Coach to join our TRIO Program team. The successful candidate will provide academic coaching services to students participating in the TRIO Student Support Services Program, promoting successful study skills, strategies, and timely course completion.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide one-on-one and group academic coaching services to TRIO program participants, including individual and group appointments, and facilitating regular workshops to assist with the development of study skills and time management.
- Administer and interpret learning style assessments for program participants.
- Conduct regular outreach to monitor student progress and schedule appointments.
- Maintain all relevant participant contact notes in program database.
- Assist with Supplemental Instruction (SI), including recruitment, training, advertising, and data collection.
- Collaborate with Learning Center staff, TRIO staff, Academic Advisement staff, and faculty to identify and address students' academic and study skills needs.
- Offer academic, career, and personal support to guide students through the course selection process.
- Advise students regarding educational options, requirements, policies, and procedures.
- Administer advisement-based retention activities, such as Early Alert, Mid-Term Warnings, and other means of monitoring academic progress.
- Meet with identified students to develop Academic Plans to ensure Satisfactory Academic Progress.
Requirements:
- Master's degree in education, Higher Education, or relevant discipline preferred.
- Minimum of two years working in an academic support setting.
- Experience with tutoring, advising, or providing academic counseling to college-level students.
- Professional and/or personal experience in overcoming barriers similar to those facing project participants is preferred.
Competencies:
- Understanding of effective learning and study skills; familiarity with best tutoring and coaching practices for learning, resilience, and motivation.
- Good communication skills, oral and written.
- Patience, with a strong desire to help students reach their goals.
- Sensitive to a diverse student population.
- Excellent interpersonal and problem-solving skills.
- Advanced computer skills, including educational software, Microsoft Office, and Teams applications.
- Ability to think critically; eagerness to learn and make a difference.
- Strong organizational skills and high attention to detail.
- Ability to maintain strict confidentiality.
- A commitment to enriching the lives of students by promoting a positive learning environment; enhancing the quality of the student experience; and philosophically supporting programs and policies that facilitate student success.
