Position Overview:

Conemaugh Miners Medical Center is in search of a Nursing Student Intern. Under the guidance of the Nurse Manager and in partnership with the Patient Care Team, this role involves assisting with the daily care of patients and their families.

This position entails performing various patient care tasks under the supervision of a Registered Nurse (RN). The intern will practice within the full scope of their abilities, adhering to organizational policies and legal regulations.

Key Responsibilities:
Under the mentorship of the RN Preceptor, the intern will:
- Engage in the Patient Care Team's delivery of tailored, efficient care, respecting patients' spiritual and cultural differences.
- Assist in patient assessments throughout their stay and contribute to discharge planning while fostering a therapeutic relationship with patients, families, and caregivers.
- Support the development of individualized patient care plans, reporting on patient status and anticipating potential issues to prevent adverse outcomes.
- Collaborate with the Patient Care Team, including RNs, LPNs, Nursing Assistants, Unit Clerks, and Ancillary Departments.
- Maintain confidentiality regarding all patient and hospital-related information.
- Accurately document and report personalized patient behaviors, addressing physical, emotional, and spiritual needs.
- Provide emotional support to patients and families, assist with personal hygiene, and help patients with meals.
- Orient patients and families to their surroundings and assist in providing treatments and diagnostic procedures as directed.
- Record intake and output, as well as vital signs, using the appropriate systems.
- Respond to inquiries from patients, families, and visitors in a courteous and timely manner, referring them to the appropriate staff when necessary.
- Assist in the implementation of the care plan and collect specimens as required.

Qualifications:
- High school diploma or GED required; must be a senior student in good standing at a College or School of Nursing with a QPA of 3.0 or higher.
- Two letters of recommendation from current nursing instructors are mandatory.
- CPR certification is required.

- Capable of demonstrating and implementing core competencies and job-specific behaviors.
- Ability to apply technical skills and exhibit strong interpersonal skills.
