Job Summary

The Department of Transportation is seeking an experienced Executive Director to lead the Outdoor Dining Program. This role will oversee the planning, development, and implementation of the program, ensuring compliance with internal controls and standardized policies.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead and oversee the planning, development, and implementation of the Outdoor Dining Program.
  • Directly supervise a team of approximately a dozen planning and operational staff.
  • Review submissions from restaurant owners, coordinate planning and enforcement with various DOT units and City agencies, and prepare agreements for and hold public hearings regarding restaurant applications.
  • Prepare appropriate reports, perform analyses, and make recommendations on policies and procedures.
  • Promote the program in diverse communities to increase participation and promote compliance.
Requirements

The ideal candidate will have a baccalaureate degree from an accredited college and four years of satisfactory, full-time progressively responsible clerical/administrative experience requiring independent decision-making concerning program management or planning, allocation for resources and the scheduling and assignment of work, 18 months of which must have been in an administrative, managerial, executive or supervisory capacity.

Preferred skills include excellent communication (oral and written), presentation, and analytical skills, experience working with New York City agencies and community groups, project management experience, the ability to read site plans, attention to detail, the ability to handle a fast-paced and high-pressure environment, and familiarity with contracts, legal documents, rules and regulations, budgeting, and/or City procurement.
