Job Overview

Company Overview
Verve Therapeutics, Inc. is a pioneering clinical-stage company focused on genetic medicine aimed at addressing the global health crisis of cardiovascular disease. Established by leading experts in cardiovascular health, human genetics, and gene-editing, Verve is at the forefront of transforming the treatment landscape from chronic management to innovative gene-editing therapies. Our primary programs – VERVE-101, VERVE-102, and VERVE-201 – target extensively validated genes responsible for lowering low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C), a significant contributor to cardiovascular issues.

Position Summary
We are in search of a seasoned Lead Scientist with a robust background in analytics and team collaboration to spearhead the development and implementation of cutting-edge analytical methodologies for characterizing mRNA, gRNA, and lipid nanoparticle (LNP) drug products. This role involves leading a multidisciplinary team to design, develop, and validate analytical methods that are phase-appropriate, supporting our expanding gene-editing portfolio. The successful candidate will be an integral part of a cohesive R&D team dedicated to advancing preclinical gene-editing candidates.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide expert guidance on the structural characterization of gRNAs, mRNAs, and LNP drug products.
  • Collaborate across the Analytical Research and Development (ARD) team and other functions to plan and execute intricate characterization studies, serving as the analytical lead in cross-functional collaborations.
  • Engage with key stakeholders across Verve, including discovery research and process development, to establish a high-throughput analytics platform and efficient in-process testing.
  • Develop and implement analytical methods for various applications, including product release, stability testing, and comprehensive product characterization.
  • Act as the analytical lead for Chemistry, Manufacturing, and Controls (CMC) project teams.
  • Prepare and review technical documentation and regulatory submissions.
  • Oversee a small team, managing daily assignments, performance, mentoring, and training.
  • Guide the team in conducting biochemical assays for mRNA and gRNA.
  • Summarize and present findings to diverse audiences, from junior staff to senior management.
  • Perform additional duties as required.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in chemistry, biophysics, biochemistry, bioengineering, or a related life sciences field with over 15 years of relevant industry experience; or
  • Master's degree in a related field with at least 13 years of relevant experience; or
  • Ph.D. in a related field with a minimum of 12 years of relevant experience.
  • Proven expertise in operating HPLC/UPLC/LC-MS/CE instrumentation.
  • Hands-on experience in analyzing DNA/RNA using various techniques.
  • Experience with oligonucleotide lipid nanoparticle delivery and purification is advantageous.
  • Familiarity with liquid handling automation platforms and open-access chromatography systems is a plus.
  • Demonstrated ability to adapt and thrive in a dynamic environment.
  • Strong leadership skills with a focus on collaboration and team development.
  • Experience in contributing to and leading cross-functional teams to meet organizational objectives.
  • Ability to influence peers and manage multiple priorities effectively.

Commitment to Diversity
At Verve, we value diverse perspectives and are committed to building inclusive teams. We encourage candidates from all backgrounds to apply, even if they do not meet every qualification listed.
