Position Overview:
As a vital member of the healthcare team, the Radiology Specialist in Nuclear Medicine plays a crucial role in the preparation, measurement, and administration of radiopharmaceuticals for both diagnostic and therapeutic purposes. This position involves performing a variety of nuclear medicine procedures on patients across all age groups, utilizing advanced imaging technology.

Key Responsibilities:
In this role, you will be responsible for:

  • Conducting comprehensive nuclear medicine imaging techniques, including scans of the brain, liver, and kidneys, as well as thyroid activity assessments.
  • Calibrating and preparing radiopharmaceuticals for administration via oral, injectable, or alternative methods.
  • Formulating radiopharmaceuticals from pre-prepared kits and ensuring their safe handling.
  • Evaluating recorded images for technical accuracy and quality.
  • Operating imaging equipment to detect and map radioactive substances within patients.
  • Processing computerized image data, including function curves and reconstructed SPECT images, while ensuring accurate transfer to the Picture Archive Communication System (PACS).
  • Maintaining detailed records related to the receipt, dispensing, and disposal of radiopharmaceuticals.
  • Administering thyroid therapy to patients following prior diagnostic evaluations.
  • Monitoring patient dosages and ensuring adherence to treatment protocols under the supervision of a radiologist.
  • Providing care for the physical and psychological needs of patients during examinations.
  • Scheduling patient appointments and explaining procedures as necessary.
  • Initiating life support measures when required and assisting in therapeutic procedures.
  • Conducting blood draws for diagnostic testing in nuclear medicine.
  • Calibrating equipment to uphold quality control standards and monitoring work areas for radioactivity.
  • Instructing and mentoring student technologists, residents, and physicians in nuclear medicine practices.
  • Maintaining compliance with radiation safety policies to minimize exposure risks.

Qualifications:
Applicants must have successfully completed a recognized Nuclear Medicine training program and hold certification from the State of California as a Nuclear Medicine Technologist (CNMT). Current certification in CPR and Basic Life Support is also required.

Knowledge and Skills:
The ideal candidate will possess:

  • A thorough understanding of nuclear medicine principles, procedures, and equipment.
  • Knowledge of safety protocols for handling radioactive materials.
  • Phlebotomy skills and basic computer proficiency.
