Position Overview
As a Principal Engineer specializing in Applied LLM at SambaNova Systems, you will spearhead initiatives to incorporate sophisticated AI technologies across various sectors, including enterprise and government. This role is tailored for innovative thinkers who aspire to make a substantial difference by revolutionizing the application of AI technologies in practical settings.

Key Responsibilities
- Lead initiatives utilizing Large Language Models (LLMs) to address intricate customer challenges.
- Act as a liaison between client requirements and technological solutions, crafting customized AI offerings.
- Demonstrate experience in ML/LLM product development, pipeline creation, and transitioning models to market-ready solutions.
- Incorporate the latest AI research into SambaNova's offerings, ensuring they remain at the forefront of the industry.
- Maintain software engineering standards, focusing on robust, efficient, and scalable AI solutions.
- Enhance the development of LLMs and devise ML methodologies to empower clients in training high-quality models using their data (e.g., Domain-Specific Training, Self Play, Synthetic Data, Tabular Data, RLHF/RLAIF, etc.).
- Collaborate with cross-functional software and hardware teams to innovate customer-focused LLM applications.
- Guide junior ML engineers technically, bringing them up to speed and contributing to knowledge-sharing initiatives.
- Work alongside clients, internal teams, and external partners to evaluate real-world use cases and business challenges across various domains.
- Engage in hands-on coding and technical tasks.
- Work with a variety of data types: textual, unstructured, tabular, and multimodal data.
- Develop impactful applications from a unique hardware-software full stack.
- Bachelor's degree or higher in Computer Science, Engineering, Applied Mathematics, Physics, Statistics, or a related discipline, with a minimum of 3-5 years of relevant experience in Machine Learning, particularly in natural language processing.
- Proficient in Python, with a solid understanding of data structures, algorithms, and machine learning principles.
- Familiarity with ML frameworks such as PyTorch and experience with fine-tuning open-source models like Llama 2 and Mistral.
- Strong communication skills for diverse audiences, along with excellent documentation abilities.
- Experience in machine learning productization and pipeline development within software engineering. Proven capability to apply AI and LLM research to practical applications.
- Demonstrated expertise in applying LLM/NLP solutions to real-world challenges.
- Experience in Model Training and Inference at scale, Synthetic Data, Information Retrieval, Machine Reading Comprehension, RLHF/RLAIF, Weak-Supervision, Knowledge Graph, Software-Hardware Co-design, Question Answering, and Copilot. Familiarity with tools like DeepSeed and vLLM.
- Substantial experience contributing to AI or NLP research, whether in industry or open-source projects.
- Ability to drive technical and business impact, utilizing advanced AI solutions to transform industry practices and open new opportunities.
- Previous experience in mentoring roles within AI/NLP/Search projects, showcasing the ability to lead and manage sizable teams effectively.
The base salary for this position ranges from $180,000 to $210,000 annually. This range is determined by role, level, and location, reflecting the salary target for new hires in the US. Individual compensation within this range will depend on various factors, including the candidate's qualifications, skills, competencies, experience, and location.
