Job Summary

We are seeking an experienced Accelerator Systems Operator II to join our team at SLAC National Accelerator Laboratory. As a key member of our Accelerator Operations and Safety Division, you will be responsible for operating and maintaining our accelerator systems, ensuring safe and efficient beam operation.

Key Responsibilities
  • Operate and maintain accelerator systems, including setup, recovery, and optimization of performance.
  • Monitor and control beam parameters, ensuring compliance with safety rules and procedures.
  • Diagnose and troubleshoot component failures, providing precise failure mode information to senior operations or maintenance staff.
  • Provide guidance and training to lower-level operators.
  • Document experimental data and performance trends, identifying areas for improvement.
  • Collaborate with other teams to resolve equipment fabrication, repair, modification, installation, and removal issues.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in physics or engineering with physics coursework and two years of experience as an Accelerator Systems Operator.
  • Completion of ASO-II training program.
  • Ability to work independently as a skilled Accelerator Systems Operator.
  • Familiarity with physics theory underlying accelerator system performance.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Valid driver's license to drive vehicles on site.
  • Ability to work non-standard schedules and extended shifts.
Preferred Requirements
  • Demonstrated experience solving technical problems using diagnostic tools and scientific data analysis applications.
  • Computer programming coursework or experience.
