Position Overview:

As a Nutrition Specialist, you will deliver comprehensive medical nutrition therapy and design tailored nutrition care strategies for diverse populations across various healthcare environments, including outpatient, inpatient, and long-term care facilities. Your role will encompass providing health education to individuals and groups managing chronic conditions, ensuring favorable health outcomes.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Deliver medical nutrition therapy and create individualized nutrition care plans for patients across all age groups in outpatient and inpatient settings. Accurately document patient interactions in the electronic health record system.
  • Engage with community stakeholders to establish and meet the objectives of community-based diabetes initiatives, documenting progress and outcomes. Collaborate with local organizations to facilitate diabetes prevention programs focused on nutrition, fitness, and tobacco cessation.
  • Design, implement, and evaluate health education initiatives targeting diabetes and chronic disease prevention. Participate in community health events and educational activities for various groups, including schools and community centers.
  • Work collaboratively with fellow health educators, dietitians, and prevention specialists within the organization. Build partnerships with external service providers and health professionals as necessary.
  • Lead and assist in monitoring and reporting activities to fulfill grant obligations.
  • Perform additional duties as required.

Essential Knowledge:

Employees are expected to possess a general understanding of standard office technologies, including computers and software applications.

Specific knowledge required includes:
  • Understanding of health and wellness practices related to diabetes management and prevention.
  • Familiarity with pre-diabetes, diabetes, metabolic syndrome, lipid management, and nutrition across the lifespan.
  • Ability to develop and deliver engaging presentations on nutrition to diverse audiences, including children, adolescents, and the elderly.
  • Willingness to learn to operate digital tools such as laptops, projectors, and audio-conferencing equipment.

Minimum Qualifications:

Nutrition Specialist I:
Bachelor's degree in Nutrition or Dietetics,
CDR Credential and State of Alaska licensure within 6 months of hire,
BLS certification within 1 year of hire.

Nutrition Specialist II:
Must meet all requirements of Nutrition Specialist I.

Nutrition Specialist III:
Must meet all requirements of Nutrition Specialist II and have 2 years of relevant experience.

Nutrition Specialist IV:
Must meet all requirements of Nutrition Specialist III and have 3 years of total experience, including 1 year in a supervisory role.
