JOB TITLE: Early Head Start/Child Care Partnership Teacher
POSITION STATUS: Regular, Full-Time
EXEMPT STATUS: Non-exempt
PAY SCALE GRADE: 8T – No CDA/E, 10-CDA , 11-AA, 13-BA
REPORTS TO: Program Specialist
The Early Head Start/Child Care Partnership is a federally funded initiative aimed at delivering high-quality child care alongside comprehensive Early Head Start services for children aged 0-3 years, preparing them for preschool and formal education. The Early Head Start/Child Care Partnership Teacher is responsible for implementing the Head Start Program Performance Standards and adhering to all relevant federal and state licensing regulations. This role requires meeting all educational qualifications and training requirements for Early Head Start Teachers.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Exhibit a professional demeanor, demonstrating reliability and a commitment to excellence.
- Ensure adherence to all relevant federal and state regulations, including the Head Start Program Performance Standards and applicable licensing regulations.
- Collaborate with the Teaching Team to design and implement a daily activity schedule that addresses child health, safety, nutrition, and early childhood development.
- Engage with parents and staff to create individualized activities tailored to the developmental needs of each child.
- Conduct and document necessary observations, screenings, and assessments, ensuring compliance with required checkpoints.
- Proactively prepare developmentally appropriate materials and lesson plans that incorporate Native culture and language.
- Maintain constant supervision of children, adhering to a one-to-four teacher-to-student ratio.
- Foster ongoing communication with families, integrating educational goals that are developmentally suitable.
- Facilitate Family Style Dining during meals, ensuring compliance with relevant guidelines.
- Organize daily gross motor activities to promote physical development.
- Conduct home visits and parent-teacher conferences as required.
- Collaborate with specialists to enhance the quality of services provided to children.
- Utilize appropriate guidance techniques aligned with early childhood education practices.
- Participate in training sessions and meetings with staff, parents, and community partners.
- Maintain updated confidential records for children and families.
- Assist in the coordination of services for children as outlined in Individual Family Service Plans (IFSP) or Individual Education Plans (IEP).
- Communicate regularly with parents through newsletters and activity calendars.
- Work collaboratively with classroom colleagues and specialists to address the needs of children and families.
- Stay informed by reading work-related communications.
- Complete and submit all necessary reports to the central office in a timely manner.
- Ensure the health and safety of all children, following established procedures for care and supervision.
- Share responsibilities for maintaining cleanliness and safety in the classroom and outdoor areas.
- Develop and update a professional development plan to meet ongoing education and training requirements.
- Perform additional duties as assigned by the Program Specialist or designee.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- High School diploma or GED with a current Infant Toddler Child Development Associate (CDA) credential or educational equivalency.
- Minimum age of 18 years at the time of hire.
- Preferred experience working with young children.
- Strong oral and written communication skills.
- Completion of a work physical upon hire and every five years thereafter.
- Current First Aid and Pediatric CPR certification; willingness to obtain certification if not current.
- Current State of Alaska Food Worker's Card; willingness to obtain if not current.
- Preference given to residents of the community.
- This position is subject to all requirements of the Alaska Barrier Crimes Act and the Indian Child Protection and Family Violence Prevention Act, including a background check clearance.
