Safety Coordinator Job Description

Columbia Forest Products is seeking a highly skilled Safety Coordinator to join our team at our Chatham, Virginia facility. As a key member of our safety team, you will play a critical role in ensuring a safe and healthy work environment for our employees.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Develop and implement a comprehensive behavioral-based safety program to promote a culture of safety throughout the plant.
  • Lead the HEROES steering team to drive safety initiatives and ensure compliance with regulatory requirements.
  • Coordinate meetings and activities with the steering team, including regular progress reviews and status updates.
  • Monitor and track safety metrics, including incident reports, observation data, and training records.
  • Provide training and support to employees on safety procedures, protocols, and best practices.
  • Collaborate with management and other departments to identify and mitigate safety risks.
  • Develop and implement training programs on OSHA regulations, hazard prevention, and emergency response procedures.
  • Conduct regular site inspections to identify potential hazards and develop corrective actions.
  • Participate in audit programs to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements.
Environmental Responsibilities:
  • Develop and implement a Spill Prevention Control and Countermeasure Plan (SPCC) to prevent and respond to spills and releases.
  • Conduct monthly and annual site inspections to ensure compliance with environmental regulations.
  • Manage the Toxic Release Inventory (TRI) reporting process and ensure compliance with EPCRA regulations.
  • Monitor and maintain air permits and registrations, including the SWP VPDES Industrial Storm Water General Permit.
  • Conduct bi-annual water sampling and monthly visual inspections of water runoff at all outfall locations.
