Position Overview:

The Electrical Control Engineer will oversee the project management and commissioning of various mechanical systems, electrical, and control functions associated with industrial automation equipment. This role involves troubleshooting, maintaining, repairing, and optimizing mechanical systems and control mechanisms. The successful candidate will also engage in the specification and programming of PLCs, robots, and servos as required. Additionally, this position includes mentoring junior automation engineers and mechatronics apprentices while managing projects effectively.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Deliver high-quality engineering solutions and facilitate the installation of new equipment and upgrades through the commissioning phase.
  • Analyze complex systems and provide effective problem-solving strategies for Siemens and other systems.
  • Create and design schematic diagrams.
  • Collaborate with integrators, contractors, and site personnel to implement new functionalities and address issues as they arise.
  • Drive modifications to production equipment, testing systems, and communication and control devices.
  • Demonstrate expertise in facility power distribution and building infrastructure systems, including Motor Control Centers (MCCs), Variable Frequency Drives (VFDs), and low voltage DC systems.
  • Establish comprehensive technical documentation, including manuals, drawings, training materials, and preventative maintenance plans for newly implemented automated systems.
  • Manage project budgets and timelines, providing regular progress updates while demonstrating self-direction and team management capabilities.
  • Possess experience with fieldbus communication networks such as Ethernet, ControlNet, DeviceNet, and Profibus, as well as various PLC platforms.
  • Lead and provide guidance to peers and technicians.
  • Adhere to all safety policies and regulations concerning equipment and personnel.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.
  • Must have a minimum of 5 years of experience with Siemens PLC (S7, TIA Portal).
  • Coordinate with counterparts in Germany as necessary.

Qualifications:

A Bachelor's degree in Electrical or Automation Engineering from an accredited institution is required, along with five years of relevant experience or a combination of education and experience. Proficiency in Siemens PLC systems (S7, TIA Portal) is essential, and experience in automated packaging is advantageous. Familiarity with lean manufacturing principles and ergonomic practices is preferred. Knowledge of 6-axis robot programming and machine vision principles is also beneficial. Project management experience in a manufacturing setting is desired, along with a solid understanding of the National Electrical Code and NFPA 70E. Leadership experience in Manufacturing, Automation, Programming, and Machine Controls is required.

Travel Requirements:

Willingness to travel domestically and internationally up to 10% as project demands dictate.

Technical Skills:

To excel in this role, candidates should possess advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office 365 (including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Visio), strong knowledge of Siemens systems, HMI programming, and electrical schematics. Familiarity with troubleshooting VFDs, web browsers, Adobe Acrobat, and SAP is also important.
