About the Position
The role of Senior Electrical Power Systems Engineer demands a robust expertise in electrical power systems, power conversion technologies, and electric machinery. The ideal candidate will possess a comprehensive understanding of the multi-faceted physics governing power system components and will be adept at maintaining virtual models of these systems for applications including health monitoring, diagnostics, prognostics, and sophisticated control mechanisms.
In this position, the engineer will be expected to identify critical features and dynamic behaviors of physical systems across electrical, thermal, and mechanical domains. They will create detailed computer models that encapsulate essential features, dynamics, and application-specific behaviors. A solid grasp of transient, steady-state, and load flow analysis is crucial, along with the ability to conduct these studies and interpret the outcomes effectively.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct research and development in microgrid power systems and integrated power system concepts.
- Utilize computer modeling and simulation tools, preferably MATLAB/Simulink, to analyze power systems.
- Develop and implement control software for power systems and associated components.
- Exhibit expertise in areas such as electrical power and energy systems, cooling and ventilation systems, and machinery control systems.
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to solve complex engineering challenges.
- Document findings clearly for both technical and non-technical audiences.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, or a related technical field.
- A minimum of 5 years of relevant industry experience.
- Proficiency in programming languages such as Python, C++, or Java.
- U.S. citizenship is required, with the ability to obtain a U.S. Secret security clearance.
Preferred Qualifications
- A graduate degree (Masters/PhD) in a relevant engineering discipline.
- Experience with military or marine power systems.
- Strong knowledge of simulation technologies and numerical methods.
- Experience in agile software development and version control systems.
