The Senior Quality Assurance Engineer will oversee the planning and execution of departmental operations. This position emphasizes the implementation of professional activities within a technical domain. Operates with a degree of independence while adhering to established guidelines or reviewing final outcomes. The role permits adjustments to procedures and practices as long as the results align with acceptable standards (quality, volume, timeliness, etc.).
Key Responsibilities
Core Duties Include:
- Accountability for both quality assurance and quality control, encompassing the assurance of products, services, and manufacturing processes. This includes compliance in manufacturing, control of incoming materials, product inspections, and key witness points.
- Direct management of personnel, including staffing and performance enhancement. Leverages extensive knowledge in a technical field along with analytical skills to implement policies and strategies.
- Possesses an understanding of best practices and the integration of own area with others; remains informed about competitors and the distinguishing factors in the market.
- Utilizes judgment and the capability to propose alternative solutions beyond established parameters to tackle complex manufacturing processes with technical diversity and/or interdependent production cycles. Employs technical expertise and analytical reasoning, consulting multiple internal and limited external sources to make informed decisions.
- Serves as a resource for less experienced colleagues. May lead minor projects with low risk and resource demands. Facilitates discussions, fostering consensus among team members on relevant topics. Communicates performance expectations and may address sensitive matters.
- Evaluate and authorize manufacturing plans and modifications, particularly for New Product Introductions (NPIs) concerning new components to be produced.
- Support and/or lead both internal and external audits.
- Direct and engage in all Quality initiatives, focusing on quality goals and product compliance, including First Article Inspections (FAIs) and accountability for characteristics.
- Implement effective Root Cause & Corrective Action (RCCA) strategies relevant to Quality Event Management (QEM), Escapes, Material Review Board (MRB), etc.
- Review and endorse First Article Inspections.
- Lead critical elements in all phases of Advanced Product Quality Planning (APQP) / Production Part Approval Process (PPAP) activities.
- Conduct root cause analysis (8D, 6M, 3x5 Whys) of identified issues and determine suitable corrective and preventive measures.
- Bachelor's Degree from an accredited institution (or a high school diploma/GED with a minimum of 4 years of experience in quality manufacturing).
- At least 3 years of experience in quality manufacturing.
- Humble: shows respect, is open to feedback, adaptable, and eager to learn.
- Transparent: shares vital information, communicates openly, and contributes positively.
- Focused: quick to learn, strategically prioritizes tasks, and remains committed.
- Leadership skills: effective communicator, decisive, and collaborative.
- Problem-solving mindset: analytical, challenges existing processes, and thinks critically.
- Experience with Lean / Six Sigma methodologies and Statistical Analysis.
