The role of the mechanic involves executing routine preventative maintenance and performing minor repairs on a diverse fleet of construction machinery and delivery vehicles, ensuring optimal and safe operation. Responsibilities also encompass diagnosing issues in electrical, hydraulic, ignition, and pneumatic systems, as well as in diesel and gasoline engines and drive trains. Occasional delivery of equipment or parts may be required.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct both minor and extensive repairs on diesel and gasoline engines, intricate hydraulic systems, electrical systems, and drivetrains, including manual and power shift transmissions on machinery and vehicles.
- Assist in the training of new mechanics as directed by the supervisor.
- Diagnose and troubleshoot malfunctions to repair machinery effectively.
- Perform basic welding repairs (MIG & SMAW).
- Inspect, service, and test machinery to ensure compliance with manufacturer specifications.
- Carry out routine maintenance tasks, including fluid level checks, fluid changes, and lubrication.
- Ensure all safety decals, warnings, and company identification stickers are maintained.
- Keep accurate records of maintenance and repairs performed on equipment.
- Maintain precise warranty documentation.
- Process parts orders accurately.
- Inform the Branch Manager or designated personnel of any damaged equipment or warranty issues before commencing repairs.
- Maintain company equipment in a clean and organized manner.
- Keep the work area and tools in good condition.
- Manage inventory accurately.
- Uphold a safe working environment.
- Participate in technical training to remain compliant with industry standards.
- May undertake additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Essential Skills and Experience
- Three to five years of mechanical experience in troubleshooting, diagnosing, and repairing various types of construction machinery is preferred.
- Possession of an appropriate set of tools for the role.
- Experience with electrical, hydraulic, and diesel engine systems is advantageous.
- Knowledge of tractor/trailer air brake systems is beneficial.
- Welding and fabrication skills are a plus.
- Valid driver's license is required.
- Current medical certification is necessary.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills in English.
- Physical stamina is required, including walking, standing, bending, and lifting up to 90 pounds.
- Frequent exposure to outdoor elements is expected.
