Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Surgical Technician to join our team at University of Utah Health. As a Surgical Technician, you will play a critical role in ensuring the smooth operation of surgical procedures, maintaining a sterile environment, and providing exceptional patient care.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist the surgical team in preparing the operating room for procedures, including setting up equipment and supplies.
  • Maintain a sterile field during procedures, ensuring the safety of patients and staff.
  • Anticipate and respond to the needs of the surgical team, providing instruments and supplies as needed.
  • Collaborate with the circulating nurse to ensure accurate counting of instruments and supplies.
  • Participate in the maintenance of equipment and instruments, ensuring they are in good working condition.
  • Assist in the development of unit goals and objectives, quality improvement initiatives, and cost containment measures.
Requirements
  • Successful completion of an accredited O.R. Technician program, military training as a scrub tech, or two years of hands-on experience as a surgical technician.
  • Current RQI Healthcare Provider eCredential through the University of Utah Health RQI system.
  • One of the following certifications: Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) through NBSTSA or Certified Technologist in Surgery (TS-C) through NCCT.
Working Conditions

This position involves intermediate working conditions in a healthcare setting, requiring the ability to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects up to 50 pounds. The incumbent may face exposure to potentially dangerous contaminated body fluids, new and used needles, razor blades, knives, bone shavings, pieces of glass, and other contaminants as part of the daily hazards of the job.

The position also requires standing or walking for long periods of time. The employee must be able to meet the physical demands of the job with or without an accommodation.
