Job Summary

University of Utah Health is seeking a skilled Surgical Technician to join our team. As a key member of the surgical team, you will be responsible for maintaining a sterile environment, handling instruments and supplies, and assisting the surgeon during procedures.

Responsibilities
  • Prepare and maintain the sterile field, ensuring a safe and efficient environment for surgical procedures.
  • Assist the surgeon and other team members with instrument handling, supply management, and patient care.
  • Participate in the maintenance of equipment and instruments, ensuring they are in good working condition.
  • Collaborate with the surgical team to ensure seamless communication and efficient workflow.
  • Develop and maintain knowledge of medical terminology, physiology, and anatomy to provide high-quality patient care.
Requirements
  • Current RQI Healthcare Provider eCredential through the University of Utah Health RQI system.
  • Successful completion of an accredited O.R. Technician program, military training as a scrub tech, or two years of hands-on experience as a surgical technician.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment, prioritizing tasks and managing multiple responsibilities.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work collaboratively with the surgical team.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information with discretion.
Working Conditions

This position involves intermediate working conditions in a healthcare setting, with potential exposure to contaminated body fluids, new and used needles, and other hazards. The incumbent must wear protective attire at all times and be able to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects up to 50 pounds.
