Position Overview: The Department of Chemistry at Virginia Commonwealth University is seeking applications for a non-tenure track assistant professor role in Physical Chemistry.
Key Responsibilities: The primary duties will encompass the oversight, management, and instruction of undergraduate teaching laboratories, along with teaching the corresponding undergraduate chemistry course. Specifically, this position will focus on the physical chemistry laboratories and courses (CHEZ313, CHEZ315; CHEM315). A brief overview of the laboratory can be found on the department's website.
Essential Qualifications: A PhD in Chemistry or a related discipline is required. The candidate must demonstrate experience in fostering a diverse faculty, staff, and student environment or show a commitment to doing so as a faculty member.
Preferred Qualifications: Post-doctoral experience is highly regarded.
We are looking for candidates who are enthusiastic about teaching chemistry to a diverse group of undergraduate students and collaborating with graduate student teaching assistants (TAs) to cultivate independent thinkers capable of tackling the next generation of scientific and technological challenges. Applicants should be prepared to nurture a supportive and inclusive educational atmosphere, engage in curriculum development, and effectively deliver course material. This renewable instructional role offers numerous opportunities for mentoring undergraduate and graduate students, overseeing independent research projects, and collaborating with research faculty in a state-of-the-art instrumentation facility.
Virginia Commonwealth University serves approximately 29,000 students.
