Job Summary

The MRI Technologist at Atrium Health performs procedures in accordance with departmental protocols and standards. This includes operating MRI scanners and associated equipment with a high level of proficiency.

Key Responsibilities

  • Examines requests and verifies orders on each assigned patient, referring and questioning orders to the Radiologist as necessary.
  • Properly identifies patients and assists them during procedures, preparing them for the exam and documenting relevant information.
  • Interviews patients to obtain a complete medical history, reviewing relevant clinical information and correlating it with the exam being performed.
  • Assumes responsibility for the exam from beginning to completion, preparing and administering IV contrast as needed.
  • Evaluates the technical quality of images and consults with a Radiologist if necessary, recognizing abnormal anatomy and processing additional images as instructed.
  • Performs basic patient care functions, informing nursing personnel of any changes in the patient's condition and initiating life support measures as needed.
  • Operates radiology computer systems to enter orders and charge procedures and supplies, documenting contrast administration in the MAR.
  • Maintains a clean and organized work area, adhering to hospital fire and safety procedures and attending in-service classes as required.

Requirements

Graduate of an accredited two-year AMA-approved program in Radiologic or Nuclear Medicine Technology, with ARRT certification in Radiologic Technology and MRI within one year of hire. Current CPR certification is also required.
